How an envelope inserting machine works

How an envelope inserting machine works

Depending on the selected job, the inserter system feeds sheets one after another from the feeder stations. Via vertical paper transport, the sheets reach a collecting tray. In the event of interruptions or errors in the paper path, incomplete sets are placed in the reject tray. The correct sets are passed to the folding unit and folded. The folded set is transported to the inserter base and pushed into the prepared envelope at the inserting position. The filled envelope passes through the moistening and sealing unit. The finished envelope leaves the inserter base and is deposited in the output tray.

Inserting documents with different page counts

Highly developed inserter systems can work with so-called Optical Mark Recognition (OME or OMR) and thus assemble and process individual sets. For this purpose, the inserter system must be equipped with a reading head and corresponding OME software. The OME software is available in different versions (levels). For OME operation, additional settings are stored, for example, which feeder station is used for reading. The code printed on the documents in the form of bar marks contains specific processing information for each set, such as whether documents should be collected and inserted in a specific way.

The documents with the bar marks are placed in the reading feeder. Depending on the OME software used and the printed code, inserts can be fed selectively from other feeder stations. First, the documents with the bar marks of a set are stacked in the collecting tray. After the last document of the set marked with a bar mark, the inserts are added.

Operation with clearly arranged control elements

Our inserter systems can be controlled with the help of clearly arranged displays and controls. You start the processing process very easily with the start button. The inserter system then begins with the set job. With the STOP button, you halt the processing process. Operations currently in progress remain in the system. With the CLEAR button, you interrupt the paper feed at the feeder unit. All sets currently in progress are still completed. Then the inserter system stops. With the ESC button, you leave a menu without saving changes.

Easy handling

In the operating menu, you can select the job and the desired fold type for your documents. Here you can see some examples of typical fold types:

You place the material to be enclosed in one or more stations and the fanned envelopes in the empty envelope chute. Before starting a job, you must process a test set. If any material from the previous cycle is still in the paper transport path, the inserter machine outputs the paper into the collecting tray. The test set is processed completely and the finished envelope is ejected. If the inserter system is set up for the job and the test set has been processed correctly, you can start the job and insert your documents.
